Bernadette L. Peters, born Bernadette A. Lazzara, born in Ozone Park Queens New York on February 28, 1948, is a songwriter/singer and a writer of children's books. Bernadette Peters has in the past five decades starred in TV and film productions, and solo concerts. She's one of Broadway's most acclaimed actors. Nominated to win seven Tony Awards (winning two) and also winning 8 Drama Desk Awards. Four of the Broadway album of cast on which she's starred have won Grammy Awards. Peters began her stage career as a youngster, later as a teenager in the 1960s. Later in the 70s, she started acting in movies and TV. Her early performances, appearances on The Muppet Show The Carol Burnett Show and for other television shows and films were well-received. The actress also won praise for the roles she played in films like Silent Movie The Jerk Pennies from Heaven or Annie. The 1980s saw her return to theater saw her become one of the Broadway's most famous actors for over three years. Peters has released a number of singles along with several casts albums and performs regularly in concerts as a solo artist. Peters has also continued to appear in TV and films where she has been nominated for 3 Emmy Awards and three Golden Globe Awards which she has won at least once.
